So I have been given the ok to give this peep a whirl, a Datawraith from the Tron 2.0 gameverse. Datawraiths are an antagonist elite bad guy you meet towards the end of the game who are employed by F-Con, the major antagonist evil company mirror of Encom from the game Tron 2.0… which buys out Encom :/.
They are lightning fast, can jump very high and are just plain nasty in close quarter fighting, not to mention they have nasty haxor shenanigans up their sleeves as they are called ‘elite hackers’ for a reason. Oh, and they are very purple like all of F-Con programs XD
They don’t have disks but do employ a unique weapon type from the game in the shape of a triangle which is based on manipulating their mesh itself. Their primary weapon mode is a giant claw that can slice and dice but it’s main function is to sap the energy straight out of any program as a stream from close to mid-range distance. This energy is converted to regenerating their shell and health rapidly. The second mode is a blaster form, which in-game, is the most basic form of shooting weapon you can get. It shoots chunky energy projectiles, like the guns from lightjets, though they are slower and singular shots only. This is energised by the energy from the datawraith itself. Not really a problem though because…
Now the interesting part of this is actually, they are all users operating and interacting in a program shell. A human consciousness stored in a program shell. So he has user energy but the physical parameters of a program body. (baring some decidedly haxory abilities)
So F-Con employee trapped in a program body and potentially dead on the other side, and last orders were whacking off a pesky user frolicking through the internet aka Jet Bradley.
Now what?
The program shell, since the user part isn’t contained in any true technical way, is slowly becoming more aware of itself. It may never have a voice or full functionality but it doesn’t need to, to be scary to the person inside of said thing.
[Note: Since this character has unusually high physically destructive capabilities, any player who has concerns or desires for a lesser effect is fine. We can discuss any concerns or plottyness. I don’t want to power game with the character and is not my intention.]
History
Joined as part of F-Con as mostly a science guy with a nack for hacking (though he’s not serious). Hasn’t programmed in years cause he has been invested in the development of F-Cons very illegal production and experimentation activities. He is entirely aware of what was going on behind the scenes but followed a don’t ask, don’t tell policy which worked perfectly fine for him.
The plans were to steal corporate secrets and other information worldwide with a secret espionage force known as datawraiths. After the upper company heads plans went under way, after a rief success they were steadily being unravelled by Jet Bradley, and after considerable amounts of manpower, needed to employ the general F-Con employees into the program. That included him.
He only did it for the money, which he bribed them out of, and they had ran out of other choices so they agreed.
The portal somehow pulled him into the Free System before all the datawraiths were deactivated. As one of the technicians of the technology he knows very well what has most likely have happened with his body and has no illusions of having a happy ending. Though he worked with the tech they never trialled this type of event to occur so it’s all rather puzzling and horrifying, but also in a purely scientific way, interesting.
Personality and Traits
- The user inhabiting the datawraith shell borders on hate for programs, with an apparent and very clear dislike for all program kind. He thinks they are lesser things, still merely objects, as most people would still consider. He thinks it’s their fault that he is there in that situation. (this is mostly just denial)
- The datawraith is on no one’s side but his own. (he’d probably laugh at Clu or sneer, and he was out to plunder Flynn and his ‘former’ company so no love lost there either)
- He knows the abilities of the datawraith shell so far and so would not be dissuaded from going into combat if incited.
- He is smart so he has a level of genre savyness. But he is mostly clueless when it comes to being a program and surviving for long periods of time in the digital world as he has never experienced it.
- He is actually rather afraid of what the hell has happened and so he lashes out. (ah, character faults)
- He does not like to engage combat through shooting (he’s about average, cause FPS shooters), he likes using sharp pointy things or painfully sucking out the life of programs.
- He is vindictive and malicious, but he will get better. (I promise)
Notable Physical Characteristics
- All physical parts of the datawraith shell are a shade of purple. This includes the mesh weapons and visile, mostly translucent energy contained within the shell.
- The shell is comprised of skeletal looking plates rigged around the contain energy like ody armour. Though they appear see through, or non-existent, the outer shell does protect the interior just as well, if not slightly better than an average normal program. (It must be said that there physical endurance is slightly less than well armoured security programs, closer to that of a blackguard than anything. A thrown disc from a distance is less likely to have an effect on it as opposed to a direct slicing strike.)
- The datawraith shell is also ambiguous on gender, the monotonous voice doesn’t help either. For all intents and purposes the datawraith itself is genderless.
- The Energy is literally the contained users energy. It wisps various hues of purple up to pink and white and glows brightly when fully materialised. When shrouded, it and the shell can be near translucent.
- The mesh weapon they have is in the shape of a triangle, when activated it grafts itself to the limb of the owner literally becoming a part of the datawraith itself.
- The mesh weapon is a separate object though it functions similarly like a disk, baring the fact that it does not contain any significant data. Though it can be individually modified and reattains those changes permanently.
- The way to describe a datawraiths proportions is simply ‘stretched out’ (they look similarly long limed like Tron Uprising aesthetics) and sit anywhere from high 6’s – 8 foot. (this one is about mid 7’s)
- Apart from the sheer height of the program vessel, and the general humanoid appearance they are decidedly unhuman like, appearing more as mechanical suits. Since they are considered intimidating and strange even in program terms in their own system and others in the Tron 2.0verse, the grid programs would not be familiar with such visages as they were taken to an other extreme opposite in looks.
- A datawraith has no disk and it’s not certain if they even need one. Though with the advent of the users disconnection with its physical body in the Real World, this may change as there is nothing truly digitally physical keeping it together to its shell. And then, it’s not certain it’s even possible. (possible future plot point)
Notable Facts, Abilities and Feats
- Datawraiths speak in their own encrypted language and no program, or user on the digital side has been able to decipher it. Since this datawraith has no need of it, they can also speak understandably to all users and programs when wanting to.
- The tonnage of a datawraith's voice is mechanical, tinny and whispery with a strong digital distortion and static immune in it. Not very user like at all. (might scare some programs :/ )
- A datawraiths speed is unrivalled. It can run faster than user eyes can track and programs to suffer from this, plus they aren’t able to trace them on any scans until almost right on top of them, and quite often not at all. The only indication of their presence is a vauge eerie clatter.
- Datawraiths use this great speed to their advantage in an offensive way, often striking with their mesh claw weapons, and even their empty hands to cause severe or even fatal damage to their targets. Though they do use this method of combat, most rely on other ways to utilise their destructive abilities.
- They can also jump stories high and long, thus they suffer little from fall damage and are rarely impeded by terrain.
- Mesh weapons can only be operated by one with the permissions and know how to use it. It will remain in its primitive inactive state otherwise.
- A non-active mesh weapon is kept in a subroutine, somewhat like an invisible pocket. It can also be ‘strapped’ onto the thighs like a baton.
- The mesh Claw has an active range of about 10 feet, that being the maximum which suffers from decreasing effectiveness the farther away the target is. Point blank range will derezz most on use, sapping all of the energy from the victim in one go. The limitation is that 1 target can only be attacked at a time and if anywhere not within direct hold of the claw the energy syphon is locked, it will cease to work on that particular target.
- This particular datawraith’s mesh Claw has been modified to its maximum level.
- The Claw is also an important function to the continued vitality of the datawaith, as it provides the only means of rapidly healing/repairing itself. As a user in a program shell, it’s energy is near unlimited. In combat it can use its energy based weaponry indefinitely though as it takes physical damage as per a program it uses the claw to recover its injuries within a battle from the programs it is facing off and getting damaged by.
- Though the datawraith is an accomplished assassin of sorts, it is quite effective in devastating small crowds of lesser security or any lesser programs namely for those above reasons.
- The mesh blaster is a handgun speed equivalent projectile weapon As the most primitive of all the ranged weaponry it is relatively weak compared to the various other types in the Tron 2.0verse. Its size depends on the individual, though it is coded as the smallest of the weapons, on a datawraith it can easily be as large as a shotgun. It shoots chunky energy projectiles, like the guns from lightjets and are singular shots only with minimal splash damage.
- The mesh blaster is only modified once so is 1 level higher than the lowest level it can achieve through modding. The damage capacity of the blaster shots are dependent on where the program is hit, but are roughly equivalent to taking a disk semi powered hit and a fully powered one at the worst, if hitting critical areas. Energy burns are most likely to occur if it does not damage.
- (It must be noted this is not exactly how the claw and the blaster work exactly in the Tron 2.0 game, as the game mechanics and the background for how energy and health is dealt with in the Legacy world. Gamewise, the claw saps health for energy and the blaster is a rapid fire submachine gun style gun. I changed the datawraiths need for energy, as in game they do not require it either, and made it health. Normal programs keep the original function though.)
- Since shell input itself had been dampened when a user of the datawraith is still connected with the physical body, the only pain that came from the datawraiths use is through its destruction, that causes feedback that knocks the operator unconscious after their consciousness is rejected from the digital plane. Thus they have never felt real pain before in a digital body.
- The datawraith are all accomplished hackers and so have hacking abilities like any normal hacking program, though the user knowhow aids these. They were utilise to steal corporate secrets as F-Con’s main objective. He will only use these for getting to places, not in any offensive way, as he has no need.
- The final and most prominent ability of datawraiths is to shroud/stealth themselves by changing their translucency in combination with their vast speed, they are almost if not entirely invisible until they stop moving, and so it appears as if they simply teleported there like a wraith. (this is not true invisibility, but in conjunction with their almost inability to be traced and spotted, endures the program myth).
